Sabah Adventure Challenge 2013

Sabah Adventure Challenge 2013 (Challenge 14) is scheduled as:

ADVENTURE RACE (150km, 3-Day Team Race)

29th - 31st March 2013

ULTRA MARATHON (75km, 3-Day Solo Race)

29th - 31st March, 2013

Adventure Racers

The Adventure Race category will see teams (duo) competing over 3 days and a distance of approx. 150 kilometers.
All competitors will be required to ensure they have a mountain bike each and will have a mixture of trail running, mountain biking, a biathlon section and a possible tire tubing section as part of their disciplines during the 3 days of the event.

Ultra Trail Runners

Trail runners will compete on all 3 days of the event effective 2013 in an extended distance of 75km in total. Trail runners will commence the race together with Adventure racers and compete on the same race course and are expected to be self sufficient and able to operate independently. Kindly download the rules and regulations forms and mandatory kit list in the "downloads" section of the website.
Please note this is a un-marked race course and all competitors need to be able to navigate with topographic maps in both day and night environments in order to navigate across the entire race course throughout the event from check point to check point.
There will be a 4am start to a night section so good headlamps are highly recommended.

Water Stations

Water stations will be set up periodically for all trail runners and adventure racers (generally a minimum of 3 water stations per day) spread over a 15km-20km distance along the race course each day.
Meals are not provided on the race course. Breakfast and dinner are provided at the race venue for competitors.
Important Note!
The race directors reserve the right to impose mandatory rest times of 30 minutes at a designated check point during the course of the race for all competitors if necessary. The 30 minute rest period will be deducted from your total race time.
The race director also reserves the right to reduce or modify the race course without due notice ahead of time in the interest of safety or if a course change is forced on him due to conditions or events beyond his control.
The race director and event doctors reserve the right to withdraw a competitor if there is a medical need to do so and any decision made will be final.

Physical Fitness

Competitors registering for the adventure race or ultra 60km trail run understand that they must be physically fit and mentally prepared for a difficult race course over the two day's and understand the risk's and associated with competing in an extreme endurance race. Some areas of the race course are not accessible to vehicles or medical teams and response times may vary according to weather, terrain and competitors.
Each runner will be timed from the START and to the time they cross the FINISH line. The total accumulated time over the two day's (ultra) or three day's (adventure race) will determine your final race time.

Overall framework

The overall intention of the Rules and Regulations for the Sabah Adventure Challenge (SAC) is to set the framework for a competitive race conducted under a safe, fair and sportily manner. Besides sportsmanship, safety and ecological awareness, the Race Committee will put emphasis on sensitivity to the local cultures and communities the race passes through. The Sabah Adventure Challenge is completely dependant on the goodwill and hospitality of the local communities through whose backyards we are passing and amongst whom we will be camping overnight.
We therefore require all competitors and people related to the SAC to be sensitive to the local communities. A few rules have been established to minimize the risk of conflicts with the local communities, but it is impossible to make rules for all eventualities, and the governing rule is, that any act by a competitor or support crew that may jeopardize the goodwill of the race will be penalized and in severe cases lead to exclusion from the race.
In addition to the general rules and regulations stated in the present document, there will be specific rules attached to certain course stages. These will be announced during the race briefing and will be included in the course notes handed out before each race stage.
