1879 - Telecommunication in Malaysia begins with the first telegraph submarine cable linking Malaysia and Indonesia. The link was extended to London in 1879

1891 - The first telephone exchange was installed in Kuala Lumpur.

1931 - The first commercial radio was broadcasted from Bukit Petaling Radio Station.

1936 - The first overseas radio link from Kuala lumpur to the rest of the world was made. Before the widespread usage of radio, messages were relayed through morse code.

1963 - The first television broadcast.

1968 - Malaysia's Telecommunication Department was formed.

1987 - Corporatision of Telekom Malaysia. Liberalisation of the communication sector. Encouraging private sector participation

The first international Earth Satelitte receiving station built in Kuantan allowing live international TV broadcast.

1985 - The latest cordless mobile phones and representations of state-of-the-art ATUR
